Covenant House
Opening doors for homeless youth
Incorporated in 1972, Covenant House has been leading the effort to help homeless kids. And today, we are the largest privately-funded agency in the Americas that provides food, shelter, immediate crisis care, and an array of other important services to homeless, throwaway, and runaway kids. Last year, Covenant House cared for over 70,000 youth in 21 cities in six countries.
Crisis Counseling, Transitional Housing, Job Training & More
A hearty meal… a fresh set of clothes… a warm, safe place to sleep….
Covenant House offers these basic necessities to any homeless kid who knocks on our door tonight – with no questions asked and no strings attached.
Once a young person arrives on the Covenant House doorstep, we offer unconditional love – and do our best to meet their every need, whether it’s just providing a bed and a blanket, or coordinating long-term placement in one of our many programs.
Sometimes our kids find us by calling our national crisis hotline, the
Nineline (1-800-999-9999).
Other times our outreach teams rescue homeless kids from the streets.
We provide immediate crisis care. Then our goal is to build a plan for the future of every Covenant House resident. The day-to-day work is difficult, and sometimes the effort results in the heartache of losing a kid back to the streets.
But, more often than not, we’re fortunate to witness the rebirth of a young life that too many had long ago left for dead.
“I’ll never forget the first night I learned about Covenant House. It was 2:30 in the morning, and I was walking the streets because I didn’t have any place to go.
My father died a few years earlier, my mom abandoned me a few months ago after she learned she was dying of AIDS. Then I saw the Covenant House van. The people on the van were so nice. They gave me some food and said they’d help me. Then they drove me to the shelter. I don’t know what would have happened to us without Covenant House.
Most people looked at me and didn’t see much there. You looked, and saw somebody worth caring about. Thank you.”
Daniel, 21, former Covenant House resident
